Sylvia Schwartz is fast becoming one of the most exciting lyric sopranos of her generation. In 2010/11 the young Spanish soprano joined the Vienna State Opera company as principal soprano where her roles have included Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Adina (L’Elisir d’amore), Morgana (Alcina), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and Despina (Così fan tutte).

Serena Malfi was born in Aversa, Italy and studied at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome. She debuted as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Zurich during 2009/2010 and took part in concert performances of La Wally and Catarina Cornaro at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In July 2010 she debuted as Angelina in La Cenerentola at the Wildbad Festival and in Italy as Ferdinando in Pergolesi’s Flaminio at the Jesi Pergolesi Festival in June. Future engagements include Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Théâtre Champs Elysées, Paris and Annio in La Clemenza di Tito at the Teatro Real Madrid.

Born in Maribor (Slovenia), Sabina Cvilak graduated in Ljubljana where she studied with Annemarie Zeller and Kurt Widmer. Recipient of several prizes, she was also awarded the Karajan scholarship in Vienna and became member of the Wiener Staatsoper. She has recently appeared in Turandot (Liu), I Pagliacci (Nedda), Faust (Marguerite), Così fan tutte (Fiordiligi), Carmen (Micaela), Tales of Hoffmann (Antonia) and Il Re Pastore in opera houses all over the world. Her future plans include La Bohème at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki and in Hong Kong, Così fan tutte (Fiordiligi) at the Palm Beach Opera, I Pagliacci (Nedda) at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and in Ravenna, The Bartered Bride at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari.

Born in Taranto (Italy), Lucio Gallo graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory Turin where he studied with Elio Battaglia. He is a regular guest of the world’s leading opera houses and concert halls and has worked with the greatest conductors. His wide repertory includes many Mozartian, Rossinian, Verdian and Wagnerian roles. Future engagements include Don Pizarro in Fidelio, the title role in Falstaff at the Liceu in Barcelona, Iago in new productions of Otello in Tokyo and at the Opéra Bastille, Der Fliegende Holländer and Macbeth at the Hamburg Staatsoper, Tosca at Chicago’s Lyric Opera, in Berlin and Vienna, new productions of Il Tabarro and Gianni Schicchi at Covent Garden and his Bayreuth debut as Telramund in a new production of Lohengrin.

Fabio Armiliato was born in Genoa and trained at the Niccoló Paganini Music Academy. He won the Concorso Internazionale Tito Schipa in Lecce and the Concorso Internazionale Pavia Lirica, making his debut in 1984 as Adorno in Simon Boccanegra at the Carlo Felice Theatre in Genoa. In concert the Italian tenor has performed in the world’s leading opera houses including the Met and La Scala, Milan, and has developed a wide repertoire ranging from Tosca to Carmen. In 2011, he made his debut in the role of Otello in Liège, to both public and critical acclaim. Future performances include Carmen in Barcelona, Il Trovatore in Liège and Menorca and Mefistofele in Monte Carlo.

The Romanian tenor Marius Brenciu obtained a Master’s degree at the Bucharest University of Music and made his debut as Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni in 1997. Among the many prizes he has won, his most remarkable achievement was winning First Prizes in both the “Lied” and “Singer of the World” Competitions at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition in 2001. Marius made his debut at the Met in 2008 with an overwhelming success in La Rondine and also performed in renowned productions such as La Traviata, La Bohème, Macbeth, Simon Boccanegra and L’Elisir d’amore among others. Future engagements include concert performances of Lensky in Eugene Onegin with the Symphony Orchestra of the Bayerische Rundfunk.

Vuyani Mlinde studied at the Royal College of Music and as a member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, where he sang the roles of Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin, Count Ceprano in Rigoletto, Tom in Un ballo in maschera and Leporello in Don Giovanni. Soprano Elizabeth Llewellyn studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and in October 2009, she won the inaugural Voice of Black Opera Competition and the Sir Willard White Award. Her appearances, both at the NOS and in educational excerpt showcases for theatres including WNO and Opera North, have included Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Governess in The Turn of the Screw, Fiorilla in Il Turco in Italia and Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro. Most recent engagements include covering Donna Elvira for Glyndebourne Festival Opera’s production of Don Giovanni and her spectacular debut as Mimì for ENO’s revival production of La Bohème, currently showing.

Tenor Bogdan Mihai studied in Bucharest and has appeared with great success as Leicester in Maria Stuarda and Roberto in Roberto Devereux, both by Donizetti. He also triumphed as Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at both the Stuttgart Staatsoper and Dresden Semperoper and received extraordinary reviews in the international press singing the role of the Italian tenor in the premiere of Der Rosenkavalier. Future performances include Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Berlin Deutsche Oper, Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and Teatro Santiago de Chile, Ernesto in Donizetti's Don Pasquale and Don Ramiro in Rossini's La Cenerentola at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival on tour.

Massimo Cavalletti was born in 1978 in Lucca where he began his vocal studies with Graziano Polidori. He subsequently attended the Young Artists Programme at the Academy of the Teatro La Scala, Milan, refining his vocal technique with soprano Luciana Serra. Throughout this time he also participated in Masterclasses with Leyla Gencer, Leo Nucci, Renato Bruson and Luis Alva. He made his operatic debut at the Donizetti Theatre in Bergamo in Donizetti’s La Parisina, organised by the La Scala Academy and the following year he sang the role of Figaro in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia at La Scala. During 2010/2011 he will make his role debut as Ford in Falstaff and in a new production of Don Carlo in Zurich.
