UK Government announces further sanctions targeting services

13th October 2022

On 30 September 2022, the UK Government announced, in response to the illegal referendums held in 4 Ukrainian regions, that it will legislate further sanctions rules targeting further services and goods beyond those already targeted by the current version of the regulations.

The Government intends to restrict Russian access to the following:

  • IT Consultancy services;
  • Architectural services;
  • Engineering services;
  • Advertising services;
  • Transactional legal advisory services; and
  • Auditing services.

The Government will also add more individuals, such as Elvira Nabiullina, the Governor of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, to the UK consolidated list of sanctioned individuals and entities.

Whilst the above has not yet formally come into force, we do not expect it to be long before the 15th Amendment to the Russia (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 is released.

If you provide any of the services set out above to an individual or company in Russia and require advice on whether sanctions will apply, please contact Anil Rajani at anil.rajani@rosenblatt.co.uk or Ben Siskind at ben.siskind@rosenblatt.co.uk.
