Rosenblatt Launches International Arbitration Practice with Strategic Appointments of Leonardo Carpentieri and Sara Paradisi

30th January 2024

Rosenblatt, one of the UK’s pioneering legal practices and a leader in dispute resolution, announces the establishment of its new International Arbitration practice, a significant milestone in the firm’s objective to expand its global reach. The practice is being spearheaded through two new lateral hires, Partners Leonardo Carpentieri and Sara Paradisi, both renowned experts in international arbitration.

The practice has been launched in response to the growing demand the firm is experiencing for specialised international arbitration services, driven by the heightened complexity of cross-border disputes with factors such as global supply chain disruptions and a shifting geopolitical backdrop continuing to cause difficulties on international projects.

Leonardo Carpentieri joins as a Partner from international arbitration boutique LMS Legal where he was Counsel. He is both a Solicitor in England and Wales and a French Avocat (Paris), with over 14 years of experience in international arbitration. He has handled complex disputes in commercial and treaty arbitration matters for clients in various sectors including energy, engineering, infrastructure, hospitality, mining, construction, and financial services. His impressive track record includes representing the State of Libya in parallel contractual and treaty ICC arbitration proceedings, as well as assisting major European energy corporates and contractors on various high-stakes cases in the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.

His most recent experience includes representing a major Nigerian oil company in ICC arbitration proceedings and related UK litigation in connection with oil drilling contracts and representing a Turkish aluminium and glass contractor in ICC arbitration proceedings in a termination dispute relating to a project located in the Middle East. Leonardo also advises on investment treaty structuring for foreign investors.

Sara Paradisi joins Rosenblatt as a Partner from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP).  Paradisi is a contentious construction and international arbitration lawyer whose practice is focused on dispute resolution and international arbitration in relation to major construction, engineering, energy, mining and infrastructure projects. She has advised on major projects across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, with particular experience representing clients on both on-shore and off-shore oil & gas, power, and process plant projects.

Paradisi’s recent experience includes representing a Korean EPC contractor in ICC arbitration proceedings concerning a crude flexibility project in the UAE, representing a major Japanese conglomerate in ICC arbitration proceedings relating to the construction and commissioning of a pulp and paper plant in Vietnam, and representing the subsidiary of a major US-based energy company in UNCITRAL arbitration proceedings regarding the failure to properly design and build a lignite fired power plant in Eastern Europe.

Tania McLeod, Senior Partner, Head of Dispute Resolution, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome Leonardo and Sara to lead our new International Arbitration practice. Now, more than ever, businesses require legal partners with a deep understanding of the intricacies of international arbitration proceedings and cross-border dispute resolution.

A range of new issues on the global economic and political stages in recent years have increased cross-border business disputes – We believe that by establishing this practice now, the firm can proactively support clients in both anticipating and effectively dealing with the challenges and complexities they will increasingly face.”

Leonardo Carpentieri, Partner at Rosenblatt, International Arbitration, commented: “With a deep commitment to delivering top-tier legal services, Rosenblatt is well-positioned to become a key player in the global arbitration space. I look forward to leveraging my experience to contribute to the success and growth of the firm’s international practice.”

Sara Paradisi, Partner at Rosenblatt, International Arbitration, commented: “Rosenblatt’s commitment to excellence and innovative legal solutions was a perfect fit for my own experience with, and approach to, international arbitration. I am delighted to be leading this team alongside Leonardo. Together, we are already well on our way to building a practice that meets the diverse needs of our clients in navigating complex international disputes.”
